Government College of Engineering & Ceramic Technology, GCECT (formerly known as College of Ceramic Technology), was established in the Year 1941, by Professor Sasadhar Ray. The College initially started with Diploma and Certificate Courses in Ceramic Technology. In the year 1962, B. Sc. (Tech.) Degree Course in Ceramic Technology was introduced under the affiliation of University of Calcutta. Finally, in the Year 2001, B. Tech. Degree was introduced under West Bengal University of Technology (affiliated to A.I.C.T.E., New Delhi). Moreover, B.E.in Information Technology (IT) was introduced under the University of Calcutta in the year 2000. Then another new discipline in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) was also introduced in the college, and both IT & CSE (B. Tech.) degrees came under the banner of WBUT from 2001.
