BIRBHUM INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY was established by ICARE, Birbhum. The President of ICARE was Shri Somnath Chatterjee, the Honourable Speaker of the 14th Lok Sabha and the Vice-President was Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Honourable President, Government of India.

The approval from AICTE for this Institute was received in the year of 1999. Keeping in conformity with the norms of AICTE, a 21 member Board of Governors was formed. Late Padmashree Professor Ramaranjan Mukherji, Former Vivekananda Professor of Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark, Kolkata and Former Chancellor of Tirupati Sanskrit University, Former Vice-Chancellor of Burdwan and Rabindra Bharati Universities, Former President of Association of Indian Universities, was the Chairperson of the Board of Governors.

The Institute is situated at the Techno Complex of the Tilpara Region of Suri Town.

Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology is the first Private Engineering Institute of the District.

The Government of West Bengal respects its non-profit making objective.

Established to spread Technical Education amongst the new generation and guided by a benevolent mission, the Institute is one of the cheapest amongst the Private Engineering Colleges of West Bengal.

It receives grant-in-aid from the Government of West Bengal. Birbhum Zilla Parishad and West Bengal Power Development Corporation also help this academic Institution in different ways.

Our Institute believes in the philosophy of benevolent governance. Here the relation between the management and the employees is not based on the conventional concept of the rulers and the ruled. Rather we believe that to build an Institute we have to accept the essence of collective responsibility and the spirit of modern ideas of governance.
